The Walton Lighthouse is owned and supported by the Municipality of East Hants. Walton and Area Development Association (WADA), formed in 1998, maintains and improves the lighthouse, the grounds, the gift shop and walking trail. These volunteers also work toward developing tourism awareness of the community and area. In 2013, WADA hosted a celebration of the 140th anniversary of the building of the Walton Lighthouse.

Walton Shore Volunteer Fire Department was officially organized by 1967. The Minas Basin Pulp and Paper Company leased the land to the department until they were bought out by Mac Tara Lumber who later deeded it to the department. The community and Magnet Cove Barium Corporation gave donations toward the first pumper and equipment. The fire hall provides meeting space for community groups. The volunteers cater community functions; host bingos, dances, festivals, various fundraisers and the annual Firefighter’s Field Day.

Walton Seniors was organized in the early 1990s by Joy Clark. Presently fifteen members meet monthly from April to December at the United Church Hall.
