Keepers of the Light

Nine keepers tended the lighthouse during the nine decades that it was staffed. Some of the local residents who kept the light were: George Sanford (1899), Henry Clarke, Lewis Burgess, Harry Lake, Stephen Brown and Arthur Sanford.
A pilot boat was used by the harbour master to get to the larger ship waiting in the bay. He would then go aboard the vessel and pilot it into port. The Sea Queen was the last pilot boat in Walton. Docked at the breakwater, she would wait for her call to duty.
