The geologic environment that hosted the Walton barite mine is widespread in Hants County. The Macumber formation extends over 200 km to the east and west. Faulting is present throughout the region. Mineralizing fluids produced many barite and base metal occurrences throughout the area. A blanket of glacial till obscures much of the area. Other Walton type deposits may occur at depth or along strike of the favourable rocks. As the saying goes “if you are looking for elephants, look in elephant country”. The Walton barite base metal mine was an elephant in the world of mineral deposits.
